I was born with naturally curly hair and for the longest time it was the bane of my existence. I had no idea how to style it or keep it looking healthy. But as I got older I learned more tricks and tips from both my stylists and other women with curly hair. And now I’m happy to have the kind of hair naturally that many women have to create artificially. It only takes a few tricks and a little bit of effort to keep your curls looking great.
To keep my natural curls looking great I start by washing and conditioning my hair but not rinsing my conditioner completely out. This gives my curls some substance and helps them stay together. I towel dry my hair and apply a curling gel and then shake to bring my curls around. Once my hair dries I use a curling iron that is the same basic size as my natural curls to define some of my stray curls. Wrap the unruly curl around the curling iron and hold for 30 seconds then gently remove the curling iron and use your fingers to put curls in place to get the same effect I do.
Curly hairstyles have the same amount of versatility as straight styles, if not more. Up-do hairstyles are created easily and quickly by sweeping hair upward from the bottom and using a hair clip or ponytail holder to keep it in place. Then using your fingers, move the curls around to cover the ponytail holder or hair clip. Curls can also be left hanging down or slightly tousled for a soft romantic look. If your curls lack volume, a volumizing spray can be the finishing touch to whichever style you choose to wear your curls. Turn your head upside down and blow dry just the roots of your hair while scrunching, then add a high quality volumizing hair spray and a diffuser to help your curls stay in place. It may sound complicated and a little time consuming, but it actually takes less time than flat ironing my hair everyday.
