Proper Maintenance of Asian Hairstyles

Asian hairstyles girls picturesWhen many people think of Asian hair they think of pictures of geisha in kimonos with very elaborate bun hairstyles.  Unlike the stereotypes from tradition thought, most modern Asian men and women find they can style their hair in a variety of ways if they know the right kind of products to use on their hair.  Most Asians have thick, straight hair which makes it more conducive to growing to longer lengths than many other ethnic groups.  There are several natural products that can be used on Asian hair to help repair some of the problems that are common to Asian hair.

One major problem with Asian hair is that it often appears dry.  In order to combat this appearance it is important to use a mild shampoo and a conditioner that is very moisture-rich.  Dull hair lacks the sheen usually associated with healthy hair.  Regular deep conditioning treatments can be a great aid to remedying this problem.  Split ends are especially an issue with Asian hair since many Asians wear their hair long.  Combing often results in split ends; the best solution to combat split ends is to trim hair regularly.  Following these tips will result in healthy hair that can handle any of the many common Asian hairstyles.

These days many Asian women are opting for shorter hairstyles and layered looks that frame the face nicely.  A medium length, face-framing cut, that is flipped out often works very well with the round features that are characteristic of many Asians.  Another style that is becoming increasingly popular, especially among young Asians, is the short layered bob with a somewhat jagged, face-framing layered cut.  This style is fairly easy to maintain with a little bit of styling creme and it still manages to maintain a slightly edgy look.  Tradition is not completely dead, and for formal occasions many Asian women still style their hair in the elaborate buns of yesteryear.  Whether the choice is traditional or cutting edge, Asians have a variety of unique and creative hairstyles at their disposal.

African American Hairstyles: Healthy Hair

African American Hair styles picturesEvery African American woman understands hair issues; from social stereotypes to cultural pride African American women can often link almost any issue to their hair.  The all encompassing nature of the issue is by no means unfounded, especially if one thinks about the wide variety of African American hairstyles to choose from.  At the root of all these hairstyles lies the need to maintain healthy hair, which for African American women means understanding the makeup of their hair and pampering it accordingly.

One little known fact about African American hair it that it actually produces more oil than Asian and Caucasian hair, but because of its tight curls the oil is not spread evenly throughout the hair, resulting in hair that appears brittle and dry.   In order to maintain the health of African American hair it is important to make sure it receives the proper amount of moisture.  There are several natural and organic products available to help moisturize African American hair; this makes the hair much more manageable and easier to style into a wide variety of African American hairstyles.  In fact, once the hair receives the proper amount of moisture many African American women find it is ideal to wear their hair in one of the many natural African American hairstyles.  Natural African American hairstyles include comb coils, twists, afro puffs, dreadlocks, and many other natural styles.

Another common method for styling African American hair is to use a perm relaxer in order to make the curly texture of their hair straighter.  While relaxers are a viable option for some, it is important to note that properly maintaining hair that has been chemically relaxed usually requires much more effort than natural hairstyles.  There is also the serious downside that if you choose to stop putting relaxer on your hair, you have to allow your hair to grow out for a couple of years to get rid of all the chemically treated hair.  During this time your hair will have two distinctly different textures which can make it very hard to style.  Whether you choose a natural hairstyle or a relaxed style all beautiful African American hairstyles start with healthy, well moisturized hair.

Creating and Maintaining Fast and Easy Curly Hairstyles

curly hairstyles for medium hair picturesI was born with naturally curly hair and for the longest time it was the bane of my existence. I had no idea how to style it or keep it looking healthy. But as I got older I learned more tricks and tips from both my stylists and other women with curly hair. And now I’m happy to have the kind of hair naturally that many women have to create artificially. It only takes a few tricks and a little bit of effort to keep your curls looking great.

To keep my natural curls looking great I start by washing and conditioning my hair but not rinsing my conditioner completely out. This gives my curls some substance and helps them stay together. I towel dry my hair and apply a curling gel and then shake to bring my curls around. Once my hair dries I use a curling iron that is the same basic size as my natural curls to define some of my stray curls. Wrap the unruly curl around the curling iron and hold for 30 seconds then gently remove the curling iron and use your fingers to put curls in place to get the same effect I do.

Curly hairstyles have the same amount of versatility as straight styles, if not more. Up-do hairstyles are created easily and quickly by sweeping hair upward from the bottom and using a hair clip or ponytail holder to keep it in place. Then using your fingers, move the curls around to cover the ponytail holder or hair clip. Curls can also be left hanging down or slightly tousled for a soft romantic look. If your curls lack volume, a volumizing spray can be the finishing touch to whichever style you choose to wear your curls. Turn your head upside down and blow dry just the roots of your hair while scrunching, then add a high quality volumizing hair spray and a diffuser to help your curls stay in place. It may sound complicated and a little time consuming, but it actually takes less time than flat ironing my hair everyday. It’s well worth a little effort to get a great looking curly hairstyles. Making Your Child’s Haircuts Painless

Making Your Child’s Haircuts picturesMany parents are all too familiar with the painful struggle to get their kid’s haircuts, especially if it is the very first haircut for your child. Young children often have trouble sitting still during a haircut; they squirm and fidget due to a fear of the whole process. To calm a frightened child during a haircut, preparation may be the key. Warn your child in advance that they will be having a trim. If they are old enough ask them to take part in deciding their new hairstyles. Bring a distraction such a beloved toy or book to make the kid’s haircuts go more smoothly. And if your child still seems to be opposed to getting their haircut, ask your stylist if you can sit in the chair with them to offer comfort and keep them still.

But what kid’s haircuts are appropriate and attractive? For little boys who have trouble keeping still during haircuts, quick and easy styles are best. A buzz cut is both trendy and functional, not requiring very much time in the stylists chair and very little upkeep on your part. For parents that want to keep their young man’s hair longer a classic cut may be the way to go. This is a very clean cut look for little boys, with hair layered short on top and tapered down on the sides and back of the head. The hair around the ears and at the nape of the neck is kept trimmed neatly. Keep in mind though, that if your child squirms in the chair the haircut will not be absolutely perfect. But the overall tidy appearance of the fresh haircut is the most important thing.

Quick and easy is great for little girls too. Many parents choose to leave their little girls hair long with just a periodic trimming of the ends for maintenance, perhaps adding bangs for an easy change. For little girls without long hair a short bob is both trendy and easy, requiring little up keep beyond trimming the ends. Keep in mind your child’s ability to sit still and comfort level with the stylist before going through with the haircuts.

Hair Accessories Bring Variety to Tired Tresses

women hair accessories picturesThere is no simpler way to complement an outfit than by adding well placed, tasteful hair accessories. Hair accessories are multi-purpose. Yes they do add flare to your wardrobe, but they can also disguise flaws in your hairstyle or make up for aspects of your hair you deem a shortcoming. For instance, my stylist once cut my bangs entirely too short for my facial structure. I invested in decorative headbands and bobby pins to hide my too-short bangs until they grew out to a more flattering length. Hair accessories are also an affordable way to vary your look and enjoy contemporary trends.

There are many types of hair accessories to choose from for accenting your style and they each have differing designs and uses. As mentioned, bobby pins can be used in conjunction with a little hair gel to hold down short bangs. Headbands can also be used to rectify this problem by holding bangs straight back. Hair bands can keep hair off your face. Varying styles of hair bands can be used for the differing aspects of the busy woman’s lifestyle from sporting or outdoor activities to special events. Hair sticks (chopsticks) can dress up a simple chignon. And hair claws can add volume when hair is loosely clipped within the claw making the hair pouf out slightly on the sides. Small snaps or springs can be used in abundance as they are extremely small and can be used to draw eyes to your hairstyle.

Since hair accessories are such necessary little items, you may begin to accumulate quite a few. Then you may find your bathroom or dresser drawers overflowing with a medley of ponytail holders, bobby pins and headbands. Periodically organize your drawers, gather like items and form separate piles. Then go through the piles and find broken accessories or ones that you have not used in a while and dispense with them. Store the remaining items in a sectioned container (think tackle box for your hair accessories). That way when you go searching for that perfect little clip you just knew you had, you’ll know exactly where to find it. Read the rest of this entry »
