Making Your Child’s Haircuts Painless

Making Your Child’s Haircuts picturesMany parents are all too familiar with the painful struggle to get their kid’s haircuts, especially if it is the very first haircut for your child. Young children often have trouble sitting still during a haircut; they squirm and fidget due to a fear of the whole process. To calm a frightened child during a haircut, preparation may be the key. Warn your child in advance that they will be having a trim. If they are old enough ask them to take part in deciding their new hairstyles. Bring a distraction such a beloved toy or book to make the kid’s haircuts go more smoothly. And if your child still seems to be opposed to getting their haircut, ask your stylist if you can sit in the chair with them to offer comfort and keep them still.

But what kid’s haircuts are appropriate and attractive? For little boys who have trouble keeping still during haircuts, quick and easy styles are best. A buzz cut is both trendy and functional, not requiring very much time in the stylists chair and very little upkeep on your part. For parents that want to keep their young man’s hair longer a classic cut may be the way to go. This is a very clean cut look for little boys, with hair layered short on top and tapered down on the sides and back of the head. The hair around the ears and at the nape of the neck is kept trimmed neatly. Keep in mind though, that if your child squirms in the chair the haircut will not be absolutely perfect. But the overall tidy appearance of the fresh haircut is the most important thing.

Quick and easy is great for little girls too. Many parents choose to leave their little girls hair long with just a periodic trimming of the ends for maintenance, perhaps adding bangs for an easy change. For little girls without long hair a short bob is both trendy and easy, requiring little up keep beyond trimming the ends. Keep in mind your child’s ability to sit still and comfort level with the stylist before going through with the haircuts.

Hair Accessories Bring Variety to Tired Tresses

women hair accessories picturesThere is no simpler way to complement an outfit than by adding well placed, tasteful hair accessories. Hair accessories are multi-purpose. Yes they do add flare to your wardrobe, but they can also disguise flaws in your hairstyle or make up for aspects of your hair you deem a shortcoming. For instance, my stylist once cut my bangs entirely too short for my facial structure. I invested in decorative headbands and bobby pins to hide my too-short bangs until they grew out to a more flattering length. Hair accessories are also an affordable way to vary your look and enjoy contemporary trends.

There are many types of hair accessories to choose from for accenting your style and they each have differing designs and uses. As mentioned, bobby pins can be used in conjunction with a little hair gel to hold down short bangs. Headbands can also be used to rectify this problem by holding bangs straight back. Hair bands can keep hair off your face. Varying styles of hair bands can be used for the differing aspects of the busy woman’s lifestyle from sporting or outdoor activities to special events. Hair sticks (chopsticks) can dress up a simple chignon. And hair claws can add volume when hair is loosely clipped within the claw making the hair pouf out slightly on the sides. Small snaps or springs can be used in abundance as they are extremely small and can be used to draw eyes to your hairstyle.

Since hair accessories are such necessary little items, you may begin to accumulate quite a few. Then you may find your bathroom or dresser drawers overflowing with a medley of ponytail holders, bobby pins and headbands. Periodically organize your drawers, gather like items and form separate piles. Then go through the piles and find broken accessories or ones that you have not used in a while and dispense with them. Store the remaining items in a sectioned container (think tackle box for your hair accessories). That way when you go searching for that perfect little clip you just knew you had, you’ll know exactly where to find it. Read the rest of this entry »

The Internet Saved the Prom Hairstyles

prom hairstyles for medium hair picturesWhen my daughter told me she was going to the prom and asked if I could help her get ready when the time came, I had trouble concealing my trepidation. I hadn’t gone to my prom and I had no idea about the preparations involved. The dress shopping I thought I might be able to handle, but when it came to finer details like the perfect prom hairstyles my daughter just had to have, I was clueless. So I turned to the best resource available outside of an actual hairstylist, the internet.

By just searching for prom hairstyles I got a plethora of options for my daughter and step by step instructions on how to create the look myself. I also found some suggestions for choosing my daughter’s prom hairstyles that I hadn’t thought of. For instance, the prom hairstyle chosen should compliment your face shape, just like your day to day hairstyle. Proportion is important when considering dress style and neckline. That gave me the clue that dress shopping should come before deciding on a final prom hairstyle. If my daughter chose a slender dress her hairstyle should be complementary, and the opposite is also true; a full dress calls for a full hairstyle If the dress has an open neckline in both front and back, wearing her hair down would look best. But if the back is covered or the front and back are closed, an up-do would work well with that look.

There were many other things I found out about prom hairstyles online. Keep accessories to a minimum. Keep in mind hair texture and know that an up-do is not absolutely necessary. Make sure that the prom hairstyle does not clash with the theme of the dress so that the look does not become awkward. And just to make sure I had gotten everything right, we did a trial run of the dress, hair and accessories to make sure it was the perfect look for my daughter, all the way from her prom hairstyle to her shoes.
